"I'm transparent. I want to see beyond what I'm looking at."
Born in Carpi, Italy, in 1973, Samantha Malavasi has carved a unique niche in the contemporary art world with her innovative exploration of layered monochromatic structures. Growing up in a family of painters and decorators, Malavasi was immersed in the world of colour and creativity from a young age. This early exposure to art laid the foundation for her future path.
Malavasi pursued a formal education in the arts, earning a diploma in ceramic art from the Fine Arts Institute “A. Venturi” in Modena in 1996. She further honed her skills by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna in 2001.
Her artistic journey is characterized by a relentless commitment to material experimentation and the evolution of studio techniques. Malavasi’s work is characterized by abstract compositions, created through the imprinting of paint onto various materials such as plexiglass, PVC, canvas, paper, plastic, and wood. These intricate, interwoven patterns evoke a sense of perpetual growth and transformation.
Living and working both in Berlin, Germany, and Modena, Italy, Malavasi’s art reflects a deep connection to both places. Her monochromatic palettes and layered structures capture traces of humanity, journeys, and shared destinies. Each piece is a testament to her belief in the power of art to connect communities and create a unified future.
Malavasi’s dedication to her craft and her innovative approach have earned her recognition and acclaim in the art world. Her works are not just visual experiences but also narratives of human connection and transformation, making her a significant figure in contemporary art.
