"It’s about feeling free. No boundaries. Only the empty canvas and my intuition to do the job."
Albert Fröling was born on February 24th, 1982 in Winschoten, Holland to Chinese-Dutch parents. With a degree in marketing and communications, he worked primarily as a consultant and manager in financial services organizations. His curiosity for art was sparked in 2015, when he discovered some unknown artworks by his late Father, who was an artist. Specifically, a collection of abstract sketches and paintings guided Albert to explore abstract expressionism. Adding his existing intrigue with artists like Mark Tobey, Joan Mitchell and Jackson Pollock, Albert quickly tapped into his passion to bring to life his creations.
In order to feel the mood of the abstract expressionism movement, Albert plays jazz music from the 40's, 50's and 60's while he paints. Adhering to techniques from that era, but also adding his own twists to the process are key to the vibe that Albert's works emit.
Working intuitively, with no boundaries, Albert chooses only the base colour of a new piece. The steps that follow, unfold spontaneously. With the use of different materials, including regular acrylics, industrial paints, house paint and oil based paints, he uses a variety of techniques, such as dripping and pouring and he works with old brushes, a pallet knife and his hands to create the depth and combination of colours that emerges in the end result.
